This is a festival that celebrates film that breaks down barriers and stigmas regarding mental health and celebrates other mental health warrior filmmakers.
A Mental Health Warrior is a creative who has been touched by mental illness. But he or she does not let it get them down. They use their creativity and their filmmaking talent to crush those barriers.
Our first festival was a small success. We hope to double our attendance as well as have an online component on Eventive so the Mental Health Warrior ethos of using Film as a weapon against stigma and our own mental turmoil can spread worldwide.
This Festival is the brainchild of Max Blaska. He’s a writer and filmmaker but also a mental health warrior. He has fought anxiety and depression for most of his life. He is also on the autism spectrum.
He firmly believes in the power of film and the performing arts to break down stigma.
September 16th to 30th Online Film festival
September is Suicide Awareness Month. The best way to prevent suicides or attemped suicides is knowledge and to bring it into the open. There are great organizations bringing light and awareness to this issue.
This event is a first of its kind. It is an online film festival showcasing films from mental health warriors from accross the country. Some do deal with the subject of suicide. Some the films are PG-13.
But this event is also a fundraiser. With the Eventive platform we can see where tickets to this festival is sold. All funds raised will stay in the state where they were purchased.
This Online Festival is Sponsored by ELITE COGNITION
Elite Cognition is an agency specializing in therapeutic recovery-focused mental health therapy and clinical counseling services for individuals and families in the Madison, Wisconsin area and Dane County community community area and Dane County community.
If you are interested for supporting this film festival and helping us continue bringing attention for the amazing filmmaking happening across our planet and celebrating it here in Wisconsin we invite you for considering a donation.
We would greatly appreciate your support!

Make Mental Health Matter is a non profit located in Denver, CO created by Kelli Melissa Reinhardt in honor of her sister who died by suicide in 2017. The organization is on a mission to save lives through mental health, substance use and suicide prevention, intervention and postvention programs. They aren’t just saying mental health matters, they are taking action to MAKE Mental Health Matter. Their annual MHSA Film Festival was one of the inspirations for this.
When you support Mental Health Warrior Film Festival you also support our beneficiaries
This festival is also a different kind of fundraiser. Through the Eventive platform’s algorithm. We are making sure that all funds, minus the $2.50 eventive fee, raised through ticket sales stay in the state that they were purchased.
The Franki Moscato Foundation exists to abolish adolescent suicide in Wisconsin through eager action to provide funding to deserving families and schools, create and disseminate professional public service media content, manage a safe space for healing collaboration, and grow awareness of being a creative, resource-plentiful partner.
Franki Jo Moscato is a talented singer and actress whom i met when the film I was the lead writer on “Last Rung On The Ladder” was being shot and found out what a wonderful mental health warrior activist she is.
Danei Edelen is the Executive director of NAMI Northern Kentucky and a fellow mental health warrior. She was one of the first people to reach out to me when i started the Mental Health Warrior Film Festival Project and it is a pleasure to have all ticket sales sold in KY to go to them.
S.a.f.e. S.p.a.c.e. Theater Therapy Foundation -501c3 is where storytelling meets healing. Rooted in the belief that art can break cycles of silence and stigma, we create transformative spaces where theater, therapy, and community intersect. Through stage productions, workshops, and open dialogue, we give voice to stories often hidden—exploring faith, family, mental health, trauma, and resilience.
Our mission is to provide a platform where individuals, especially youth and families, can confront difficult truths in a safe, supportive environment. By blending the power of performance with the tools of therapy, we encourage self-expression, foster empathy, and spark meaningful conversations that lead to healing and change.
I met the talented director Felicia McWilliams-Kelly-Brookins at a film festival in Jackson MS where she won best screenplay.
All other funds will go to the state’s American Foundation for the Prevention of Suicide affiliate. And ticket sales in Canada will go to the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention
The SAM Foundation changes the way their communities view mental health and serve as a resource to those who have been affected by suicide, therefore making their communities more suicide safe. Through our evidence- based trainings, the SAM Foundation reaches a variety of community members, corporate groups, educators, first responders and mental health professionals.
Nurturing and empowering resilience, the Hold On Campaign for Suicide Prevention with compassion uses the power of art to educate, connect, express, and heal.
Their services include community outreach, advocacy, presentations on expressive arts and suicide prevention, arts & healing workshops, inspirational visual art, song, and film creations, the Talking Back 2 Suicide podcast, “Gifts of Hope” offerings, and the “Create Resilience Youth Art Contest” for Oregon youth ages 13 - 21 yo.
I met their lovely director, Diane Kaufman MD, at a film festival in Santa Monica where I saw her moving animated film “Marble Me Free” screened.
